Captain of Good Angels Košice has been very successful recently. Before the end of the last year she was awarded MVP in week 10 by FIBA Europe. During last weekend Lucia received award for the Sportsperson personality of Košice – 2011. And now she is again on top.
In awards for the best basketball player (for 2011) organized by Slovak basketball Association Lucia Kupčíková finished on the highest notch and the space between her and second (her former teammate Ivana Jalčová) was really enormous. To be more precise the exact difference was 160 points so she managed to surpass above mentioned Ivana Jalčová but also the trio from Good Angels - Erin Lawless, Zuzana Žirková and Anna Jurčenková.
27 years old female player born in Poprad winning the award for the best basketball player finished the 6 years lasting domination of her teammate Zuzana Žirková. Zuzana couldn’t defend the title in awards because of her medical problems, which were the reason why she also had to miss FIBA Europe championship in Poland. Because of subsequent injury she haven’t played any competition match in current season.

Success of yellow-blue colors of Good Angels in this awards has another dimension, because in category for the best coach triumphed Štefan Svitek. Head coach of our eight times champion overreached 100 points limit (quite significantly) and also due to very good results which he has achieved recently with Good Angels is his victory well deserved.
It just confirms the fact, that 45 years old coach born in Gelnica became the head coach of Hungarian national women basketball team at the turn of 2011/2012. After experience as assistant coach, when he cooperated with American Pokey Chatman, Štefan Svitek is expecting his absolute premiere in the position of head coach managing national team.

1. Štefan SVITEK (GOOD ANGELS Košice) 136 bodov
2. Peter BÁLINT (ONYX Levice) 92 bodov
3. Ľubomír URBAN (Bemaco SPU Nitra) 69 bodov
To sum it up it is also necessary to mention that award for the best basketball player received Anton Gavel, who is currently a part of German Brose Baskets Bamberg. Among youth trainers got the award Martin Pospíšil now working as assistant coach in Bemaco SPU Nitra and best referee comes from Prešov – it is Zdenko Zubák.
Finally we must add, that identically as last year, also this time were the results of awards involving team representatives, media, coaches and members of SBA executive announced only as press news. We have to be grateful even for that (if we take into consideration the current situation in Slovak basketball), at least we know who to congratulate.
So: Lucia and Pišta, CONGRATULATIONS!
